*sigh* and Titration. =)
I just want to fall asleep for a week. T_T
So much school work. It seems as if there’s no break till november when the HSC ends and there’s no more school ever again. But then there’s the fact that it’ll be soon that I’ll have to figure out what university I wish to go to and what course/s I wish to take.
Argh.
Well, in meantime, I had loads of fun at the Titration (a chemistry process that involves trying to find the point where an acid and a base neutralise) competition in the University of Technology Sydney on Saturday. Well, sorta.
Encountered many problems with my experiment *sigh* particularly with the burette (think of it as a glorified pipette heh.)
My burette wouldn’t smoothly open and close (which is very bad since it is an accuracy type of thing),
I forgot to close the burette when I first did the experiment and so not only did I waste some Sodium Hydroxide (Weeellll we can’t get more than the amount we’re already given so yeah..) but the white “tile” which was filter paper *sigh* got wet aka useless for seeing when the phenolphtalein would turn the solution pink,
some/one/decided to splash my burette which is meant to be exclusively NaOH and not at all acidic with their solution whilst at the sink,
there was some gross yellow precipitate liquid on the bench when there obviously shouldn’t have been (ugh… I don’t think I want to know what makes phenolphtalein turn YELLOW since that shouldn’t be possible U_U) and of course,
someone decides at the exact moment that I’m nearing the equivalence point where I’m going drop by drop, half-drop by half-drop to well… interrupt my concentration (hahaha how ironic since the point is to find the concentration of the sodium hydroxide and then the acetic acid)
Not cool.
It was cool however, that:
1. Was able to be out at Central aka. see Sydney city at its uhh …. well, I wouldn’t say finest since I kind of got lost trying to find the train station and Oporto’s chips are a rip off (pft. As if those chips deserved to be called a large serving *scowl* and they ran out of chocolate moussé too and that checkout chick made me wait for ages T_T)
2. Could see UTS (haven’t seen the library turnstile gates of doom yet but the place was alright for a lab - err /somewhat/ clean - hidden yellow precipitate disregarded)
3. Got 5th place in the comp out of the groups at UTS ^^ (got 157 though.. and last year it was 140 which was waaay better - see, they get how many 0.0001 moles you were away from the actual concentration and square it so the lower the better. So last year was better. But then, there was no placement with last year *shrug* Oh well, I’d be happy with a participation let alone a merit ^^)
4. Aaandd a group from my school got 1st place ^____^ YAAY!!
Well, nuff about my chemistry escapades, I have my physics assignment to do and my math exam to study for (pity that the competition took a lot of time (but I still couldn’t miss out on physics tutor T_T how unfortunate. Central has all sorts of cool shops… Like kinokuniya!! Anime and Manga @_@… was even on george street where I wondered to… T_T) *sigh* Oh well.
