Thoof – Personalised News

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

Thoof. No, I didn’t write Hoof. I wrote Thoof. What is it? Well, Thoof appears to be a site akin to that of Digg, StumbleUpon, Del.icio.us, and the like, and it is a personalized news site.

It’s awfully easy to join. I believe that the signup process runs on AJAX, considering that it only took seconds for me to click on the button, enter in my email address and sign up. Immediately, I was automatically logged in, and didn’t have to go to a separate login page to re-enter everything. This is awesome considering my internet is currently capped and I can barely ‘move’. This saves me from moving. xD

That said, I do sort of wonder what happened to the password. But at the same time, it must have gotten emailed to my email address. Perhaps it doesn’t even need a password, and that would be even better.

Hold on, perhaps I should check my email.

Oooh, interesting system, creating a password and username is as easy as adding an email address.

Then to add in a story, all I had to do was enter in the link, a title, a description, and a lovely tagging system which features the auto fill-in feature that the latest Firefox 2.0 has when it comes to googling. Next up, there’s a Thoofrank page and all that takes is a quick cut and paste into the story of interest. =) Complete-o!

Thoof is so simple. So sweet. =)

Back to Uni again.

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

So its been one week since I started the 2nd semester of university. It’s already quite a busy week even without tutorials, but I suppose its like that because I went and doubled up on lectures to see which lecturers taught better. Was feeling quite antisocial that week :/ Hope that’s not the case tomorrow because two lectures appear to be quite isolating… for that to be the same case with tutorials? Certainly hope not.

Anyway, yesterday I went to Elva’s party although technically, her birthday’s on the 31st. Couldn’t stay long although considering it apparently ended at 6am, it was probably a good idea that I left. Made her a card with a vexel of her.
elva's bday In making it, I’ve learnt that there’s a noise gradient option in blending options that makes rather pretty multicoloured lines as demonstrated in this.

Erm..well, I’m still busy, and my internet is still lagging so the only internet time I’d be using is either at uni or being on msn. Haven’t filled out that ICAA form yet and its worrying me especially since I keep wondering when I could make the time to [and don't quite trust computers other than my own so I'm not about to work on it elsewhere..]

Harry Potter and the Deathly PHAIL.

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

Oh geez. It turns out that the carpet book was real. And if the ‘fake’ book happens to be real, well that sure isn’t a good thing. Spoilers below, so you might just skip it if you don’t want to get spoiled.
Also, I haven’t been able to comment since my net is capped till the end of the month. Lag abounds. But I’ll catch up.

So anyway, I finished reading it at 3pm yesterday, did my ranting at several forums and livejournals and shall keep ranting now. xD

I just can’t help but feel that its just so clichéd. Fanfics, heck, speculations, have reflected many of the subplots before. There are plotholes, renames [Dumbledore's put-outer, anyone?], and so forth which would almost indicate that it was fake. Yet it wasn’t. Got my book around 9am like usual and found the epilogue was that very same cheesy one with Albus Severus. Nineteen years into the future with H/G and R/H. :/ Geez. Least there’s D/H subtext xD
Woot, yay. Snape turns out to be a good guy after all. Although, the dynamic there has already been covered by fanfiction.
The Hallows vs. Horcrux thing? Sudden. Harry getting AK’d again? And LIVING? … and the Master of Death thing? Cheese factor completely.
I believe she laughs about the book in an interview too according to its_a_fake. Actually, it is rather funny that the livejournal comm managed to come up with at least 100 reasons why its a fake, and since it isn’t, it’s quite clear that the books aren’t up to par.
Overall, the books have declined since the Goblet of Fire but it’s quite sad that it all leads to such a disappointing end.
