Academic results

Friday morning, right before the presentation, I went and took a peek at my results. I guess this year they really didn’t release the results until the next day because I checked at 1.30am in the morning before and they weren’t up yet. Guess this 12 week semester means timing is more closer to official too so no more Thursday early emailing. -sigh-

So basically, the results were good news which was motivating =D

Okay.. so I really hoped for high distinction in legal in particular, and psychology as well, but 83 is still better [by 1] than any other mark I’ve ever gotten [82 in qma and micro though they felt much more easier though!].

Finance is the worst mark I’ve ever gotten but considering the difficulty I’ve personally had with it due to lack of focus upon it, I did quite well in comparison. Okay, do tell me if you can focus on it in tutorial time after a lecture, then a small break if you’re lucky but you’re usually not since you have to fix up notes, then a 2 hour lecture with an incomprehensible lecturer, followed by a bad accounting tutorial time, and then the finance tutorial. Also take into account that exams can be held in that accounting time and the only assessments you have are quizzes held in the tutorials. Oh that and by the end it happens to be 6pm and you’re just too tired from lack of sleep the whole day and the lack of a lunch break.
I.e. Lame. I’m going for morning tutorials. Least they can be handled with a bright mind. I think I focus more in the morning regardless of the amount of sleep I’ve had. With an early wake anyway.
After all, since I was on 57% average before the exam, 61% is awesome.

I am also very happy with accounting. I had 31/45 prior to the exams or something like.. 68% and well.. the exams were extremely difficult so it’s nice to see that I did ok in that exam =)

I suppose I am most disappointed with legal since I was sitting on clear HD -pouts-. But I suppose lack of preparation [sure I wrote the notes, but after finance had finished, I didn't feel like continuing] and the need to write essays [uh oh. POLS2023 requires essays too o.O] means a plain lack of motivation.

Psychology I was.. at about 80 so I suppose I improved quite a bit there too. =)

Overall – my WAM has actually increased though my GPA has decreased. But I don’t mind the latter since UNSW uses weighted average marks and not grade point averages anyway =D
Rather sad that I am less than 1 mark away from distinction average though -pouts-

I’ll just have to do well in all my subjects next semester. Should be able to handle it!

Backlog – Last day – day 4 of 4- 13/07/08

Day 4 is illuminated by having a day off just to explore Brisbane. It should be noted that their water bubblers are just so odd, coming in various shapes and forms. Didn’t change a bit haha.

Woke at about 8.30am due to the alarm going off. We were meant to check out at 11am but called the hotel and were told we could check out at 1pm which was good. We just kind of talked and slept till about 12pm. Lost and found someone’s medal which had broken off the ribbon. Left our stuff at the hotel and went to Queen Street Mall to get food.

I didn’t actually do any shopping other buy heaps of lollies and chocolate -pouts-. Quite a pity since shopping is much cheaper in Brisbane and I could thus avoid doing any further shopping for a while. Ah well. Now I need new shoes since I have sand in one pair and the other pair is falling apart after running that much in them. =_=” Running in boots asphalt? Baad idea. Running in boots in a shopping centre? Even worse of an idea! Clothing quota going down. Blah..

As I don’t feel like backlogging much anymore because I had a sore throat from yesterday, basically we went to the south bank by ferry [$2.50 for a whole day right around? Wouldn't get that good of a price in Sydney for transport!] and took photos of a motor enthusiast fair, of a man made beach, of a lifestyle market, of a really scary pagoda of sorts, and of various things. Spent the afternoon writing sifeunsw ’08 into the sand. Haha.

Etc etc. it started to sprinkle and we headed back and then to the airport where we ate dinner – red rooster. Oh dear. How much junk food have I eaten in the last few days? :s
Boarded the plane which was late in arriving at Sydney – 10.50pm when it should have been 10.30 but they had to refuel. They also parked in the Jetstar terminal rather than the Virgin Blue one and so blah blah blah.
Left.
Came home at about midnight.
Stayed up for a bit just catching up on the internet since I didn’t have any [other than msn/hotmail] for several days =(

Shall muse about the rather positive academic results I got on Friday in the next post. Just because, I swear, half the people talking to me today has been about results.

Backlog – Day 3 – 12/07/08

Today’s morning started off quite like yesterday’s. More McDonalds for breakfast – way to go. Couldn’t enjoy last night since we still had to present again. Some had even thrown their speech cards somewhere else. Uh oh.
But anyway, 11.20am as opposed to 11am we presented. There were fewer audience members watching and more judges since usyd’s presentation was going on concurrently.

Lunch time – we received feedback. We came to the realisation that getting into the finals might be possible so thus myself and another person had to run around Brisbane one hour before the first presentation to find officeworks to get 40 full colour double sided a3 annual reports printed out. OUCH. It cost me $150 =(

Made it back juust before the awards ceremony started -phew-. Of course, it was only at the awards ceremony that the ASB person arrived. Anyway, we did indeed make it to the finals!! =D
Watched Bond University’s presentation. They were extremely confident and had their speeches memorised and not a stutter in sight. Except for the the question time. And one of the presenters juggled. Their figures were huge and they did not elaborate what their role actually was.
Then it was our turn. Due to a different hall – the main hall rather than one of the smaller rooms, it was all different and I didn’t go up to the stage at question time. Perhaps I should have if it wasn’t on the other side of the room. Anyway, the A-V guy next to me stuffed up with the presentation messing around with the sound settings =_=” *sigh*. Oh well, still good. Everyone laughed at the videos at least.

Watched UWA. Okay, I really didn’t like their powerpoint since it was rather basic, but they had diversity [as opposed to all Asians] in their team, and they presented well and their projects were actually substantial rather than ours which were rather watery compared to the other finalists. It’s surprising how far we got. Still awesome that we did though. UWA won.

Watched Melbourne University’s after and found they were very prepared but it seemed just so mechanical in their movements- and so very fake. The actions just weren’t as realistic. They were first runners up and were crying because they really wanted to be first.

We? Well.. we didn’t really care all that much. Slight disappointment [missing out on the 10kg chocolate!!] But still good.=) We got to the semis- anything else is a bonus!

Er Yes.. anyway, so two people had to leave that evening right after the awards ceremony =(
We took some last pictures.

After-party? Eh. It really sucked. Too loud and too many people. Went on a pubcrawl firstly to the Jade Buddha’s top floor. Too noisy again and full of drunken Melbournians. After all MelbU brought along 40 people :x Damn were some of them completely drunk and out of it.

Bottom floor? Much better. More quieter. Saw the Macquarie people again. They’re cool. We hung out that night because the Sydney people went off to karaoke earlier and we didn’t have their contact numbers =(. Got kicked out because the bottom floor was closing. Then we too headed off for karaoke along with one Melbournian.
The place was rather yuck. Oh well, had fun karaoking till 3am in the morning. Haha. Then we left to get a really early breakfast/late late dinner of Hungry Jacks/McDonalds and went our separate ways with the other unis. Got to the hotel at like.. 4am and went to sleep at 5. Oh gawd?
