Shopping Carts and E-Commerce Payment Systems

I keep getting Verisign spam to my mail box. No. Not my email, but my actual physical mail box.
I rather question its legitimacy sometimes even though the tick is supposed to be considered an excellent indicator of verification on some websites. Okay, maybe its the case with its SSL system but that’s about it.

Well, Colleen seems to be deviating between using etsy.com and setting up her own e-commerce shopping cart to sell her craft stuff. Well… quite frankly, although its fairly instantaneous to install a e-commerce system via cpanel, it is probably better to look into another system…

So in Australia, a lot of credit card processing systems tend to have the attachment of a bank name here and there on the website, and it’s that system that’s used process it as opposed to paypal or the like. Equally, Prodigy Payment Systems is associated with HSBC.

Well anyway, Prodigy Payment Systems, as a credit card processing system, accepts more than just Visa, Mastercard and American express. They also accept Diner’s Club and Discover Card, which I have the vaguest inklings of understanding since they aren’t used much but it is a good thing that they accept it.

Electronic Check Conversion? Awesome. You probably would indeed save time with electronic check conversion. Although whether it would actually achieve the following:

* No more time consuming trips to the bank
* No more bank deposit fees
* No more bank NSF fees
* No more lost revenue from bounced checks
* No more lost time trying to collect “bad” checks
Is a question. Why would Prodigy guarantee it? How do THEY benefit?

Debit card processing? Is this over the internet? Is it actually secure? If so, and if it’s over the internet then that is awesomeness. That’ll be very useful for Colleen though I bet it’s only going to work with USA cards…but hey that’s still good. Oh wait, that’s in store. Well that’s okay. Nothing too special though then. Though.. most banks tend to charge fees if you use an atm that isn’t theirs.

Wireless Payment Acceptance? Well.. PayPal is more universally accepted whereas you haven’t really heard of prodigy. On the other hand, the act of using your phone for example to pay for things with a prepaid balance is pretty nifty.

But overall I think the Internet Merchant Account will be most useful for her.
