Hey! They’re skimping out on components in sim cards!

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

There’s not much of a component on sim cards, just those little bits of metal, but the newer ones have started to skimp out on the little once square metal bits.

I’ve switched to TPG after 9 long years with telstra bigpond broadband. It was thaaat bad, but there were regressions. [oh look, we're learning about regression in econometrics! But I'm not talking about that sort of regression, although you could put it into an equation of Decline_in_Internet_Quality = Years.x + u .... One year without doing econometrics has really wiped with away from my mind :x ]
TPG already has its setups and downs.

Firstly, the phone didn’t work for a while (but that could be attributed to the telstra phone line) whereas the adsl did work.

Secondly, they took about 20 days to send my sim card [the aforepictured] and spare central filter (I over-ordered since I didn’t think they’d include one) and that was only after I emailed them to complain.

Then they sent me another central filter even though I told them I wanted to cancel receiving that central filter so now I have 3 [the original one is being used even though the Dynalink rta1025w includes one. Oh... well fine its the netcomm version because it looked better but is just a rebrand.].

So now I have to post it back.

In other news, I’ve been taking around a moleskine to jot down random ideas, thoughts, queries and so forth that my computer stuffups can’t process as quickly as they should. I’ve been writing in it everyday so that’s pretty good.
I think I might just turn off my comp and find a keyboard cleaning guide since the i key popped off..
just how do i pop open the other keys? because now the i key is working wonderfully.

It’s back to the uni slug

But before that…
Never let a ‘technician’ [especially audio-visual ones. What do they know? Ugh.] at your computer freely. Not only did they fail to solve the projector problem at the sife competition…. they screwed up my computer and didn’t fix up the settings!!
>_>

fumes

And so I had to reinstall my graphics driver and directx [which is harder than you think since it has no uninstall button..], thinking that the directx was the problem when a slight fix would have fixed it all. sigh

sigh

And we lost the semi-finals most likely because of that time delay =( sad

So anyway remember –
1. Check hardware acceleration [or remember when people change your settings... sigh No wonder everything is failing] before anything else!! [Full. Oh full hardware acceleration <3. I'm a fool to not notice.]

2. Thennn reinstall.

On the other hand, yay! 1tb harddrive to backup everything on [especially now that all is well]

I should really sort through my computer files since I have never formatted this computer since it’s been reliable since the beginning although I could do with a new battery because its now only pulling 6 hours.

Except in one week, its back to university. I haven’t gotten my textbooks yet and nor have I gotten my stationery/onenote notebooks set up!

Ahh. SO little time!

Obligatory SIFE Comp Blog

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

So, we walked away not finalists [we did get into the semis though], but it we walked away satisfyingly as winners of Cadbury’s most inspiring [thanks to Chantal's brilliant writing skills!] and with the most outstanding student, Bernise [thanks to Simona's excellent 20 minute nomination and Bernise's own talent to whip everyone into shape!]

Oh.
Em.
Gee.

10kg.
Of Chocolate.

nod

But I might just store the 2kg proportion I got until we use it as a fundraiser or something. Not actually a fan of plain milk..
