About Myself

About me

This section is rather self-explanatory – it is clearly about me.

Who is it that I am?

I go by the name of Lavenderpup on the internet [although slowly I believe the name is getting overwritten by others as more people start using the internet, and it is hardly an inventive name having originated back in 2001].

Over time, the name has gotten shortened to Lav.Please don’t think it stands for lava or worse yet, lavatory xD

But nowadays, I prefer being called Sandy. It is, after all, the name by which I am known. I live in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and basically, I define myself as a university student for now, although the thought of being a professional student sounds intringuing [which could have been possible had I been born in the 1970s, which I assure you I was not.]

I am the only child of my parents, so therefore, I do not have any brothers or sisters, older or otherwise.

My birthday is on the 25th of May, and back to the 1970s reference, I was born in 1989. As time passes ever quickly, and this blog has withstood around 7 years of torment under my woeful writing skills, the age written upon this page usually tends to pass by quickly too. For the record, I am currently 19 turning 20 this year.

Defining myself as a university student, I do of course have to be in university, right? Well, I am currently completing a 5 year Bachelor’s degree in Commerce/Arts at the University of New South Wales, having started 2007 and now in my third year of university.

What am I majoring in? I still don’t know, because Commerce and Arts are just so broad. Broad enough that I have 4 majors. Which means each isn’t really all that major. Or that connected. Except they are majors, and there is a thread. Well, I have a much better clue than I would otherwise have had a year ago at least, and ever so slowly, my subject choices help to whittle down my options.
But currently?
  • Accounting which is a definite as I shall finish this major by the end of the year. The subjects are challenging and yet invigorating and actually, I rather enjoy the subject much to the shock/horror of my friends who also do the subject xD.
  • Politics and International Relations.

If accounting is my main commerce major, then politics is my main arts major.

Or rather, IR is my stream of choice based on the subjects I’ve done and will do, except you can get that abbreviation confused with Industrial Relations which is a management major so I’ll just call it politics. I chose this initially so that I would learn more about the world. Didn’t quite mean that literally though.
  • Psychology.

Written in order of certainty, I am almost certain that I shall do psychology as a major even though doing psychology through arts at UNSW leads to nowhere except being a counsellor I believe.[Which interests me as much as education does so it might be an option.]

That or doing an extra semester in order to complete a major AND a minor in psychology in order to be eligible for doing a post-grad diploma of psychology at Macquarie University which takes the place of honours year. sigh

Of course, having chosen to finish the whole of my commerce degree by next year, I won’t be doing any psychology this year, to the relief of my timetable which always turns into 4 days with psychology in it.

But regardless, I may just take the easy way out of this one in order to enjoy the variety with which Arts offers, and what drew me there in the first place… Although if this was B. Arts with open universities australia I could possibly have done a major in digital arts, which is my first love. Perhaps I shall in the form of TAFE though.
  • Information Systems.

Why yes, I shall do an extra subject in order to complete this major. However it isn’t very certain I shall enjoy this major. Or I may in fact enjoy it immensely due to my interest in computers, but I’ve been told that this is a watered down computer science major that is useless unless I was doing co-op.

Of course, my other options include:
    Economics.

Because economics would be a wonderful companion to politics. However, there are issues with this such as the fact that the last time I did economics was two years ago and although my microeconomics and econometric skills in the introductory courses are nothing to scoff at, I lament a tad about my macro skills. Doing an economics major also means that I can do the infs elective without running into a slight financial issue.

Finally, the way in order for me to have the most electives possible to enjoy the variety with which commerce is also said to bring.

Business Law or Taxation. Considering I am required to do 4 of these subjects in my free electives in order to meet the pre-requisites of pursuing the path of a CA accountant or CPA accountant, and as I only need 3 more for a full major [meaning I have 2 actual electives for any commerce subject], in addition to enjoying the subjects to the point I may consider graduate law although that might be related more to the aid in the forensic accounting field.
  • If I wasn’t doing a double degree I would be graduating this year. Somehow it seems rather fast, and someday, even this issue shall be in the past.

I tend to write a summary of my aims for the year [or semester] here and reflect on what’s happened throughout too. Rather like resolutions except referring to this by that title may just deter me a little bit more. =P

For now it is just strict time management of all the activities which surround me, along with perhaps adding in those random TAFE certificates as interest which elude me yet. Oh and of course, the elusive HDs and D average. I have the utmost frustrating weighted average mark of 74.9 currently, with the exact numerals being to 4 decimal points so they can be omitted. That and perhaps getting some more relevant experience.

    Hobbies

I enjoy gaming, reading manga, watching the occasional anime, reading fanfiction, reading books going on message boards, drawing, visual arts, web designing, coding, and digital arts. In short, The Internet runs my life, half the time – school the other half, and that odd half that’s not really a half is human functioning and the odd non-computerised hobby.

    Dislikes

I dislike the usual – including my previous rant which was rather immature and whiny. Of course, I, myself, am rather immature and whiny at many moments of time so hypocrisy shouldn’t be reflected. xD

Hey, nice blog you have here. Re the psychology part, if you do the 4th year (honours or pgdip) you should be able to go on to a masters or the 2 yr internship and become a psychologist instead of a counsellor. I think the long studying that psych involves puts some people off it! :) Anyway, couldn’t help myself from commenting on that.

Looking forward to checking out your blog…

My degree doesn’t permit even an accredited 3rd year without taking up extra subjects.
